Valente to depart Seven West Media CMO role

Valente announces her resignation after three years as the broadcaster's first group chief marketing officer

Seven West Media (SWM) chief marketing officer, Charlotte Valente, is leaving her post after more than three years with the broadcaster and media giant.

In a statement circulated to staff and sighted by CMO, SWM chief executive and managing director, James Warburton, confirmed Valente’s departure and her decision to travel overseas with her family for an extended sojourn.

“Charlie has done an amazing job during her time at SWM, pulling together a range of departments into a co-ordinated, go-to-market CMO division; leading the development and launch of new data products - in record time; and introducing new leadership in key areas including audience intelligence, publicity, marketing and corporate communications, all of whom are performing well,” he said.

“Under Charlie’s direction, the rigour, quality, quantity and effectiveness of our paid, owned and earned communication has improved significantly, helping make Seven one of the best performing and fastest growing media and entertainment brands in Australia, leading to Seven being named Australia’s fastest growing brand of 2021.”

Warburton added it had “been a real pleasure to work with Charlie in recent years. She will be missed and I’m sure that all of us wish her nothing but the very best for the future.”

Valente joined SWM as its first-ever group CMO in October 2019 after a stint as CMO at Red Balloon parent company, Big Red Group. She was formerly in senior marketing leadership in the out-of-home sector, working for APN Outdoor and Adshel.

Valente said it had been a momentous three years, which she is hugely proud of. “We have transformed our brand and business and achieved some extraordinary results,” she said.

“I want to thank James, my fellow executives and the board for their trust, collaboration and support and extend that gratitude to my incredible team, who believed in a vision and executed beautifully. I am leaving the company in its strongest ever position and look forward to witnessing the growth still to come.”

Valente remains in the CMO post until the end of the year and Warburton said the search for her successor is well advanced.

Marketing prowess versus the enigma of the metaverse

Flash back to the classic film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Television-obsessed Mike insists on becoming the first person to be ‘sent by Wonkavision’, dematerialising on one end, pixel by pixel, and materialising in another space. His cinematic dreams are realised thanks to rash decisions as he is shrunken down to fit the digital universe, followed by a trip to the taffy puller to return to normal size.

More than money talks in sports sponsorship

As a nation united by sport, brands are beginning to learn money alone won’t talk without aligned values and action. If recent events with major leagues and their players have shown us anything, it’s the next generation of athletes are standing by what they believe in – and they won’t let their values be superseded by money.
