Ackland gets expanded role as oOh!media reshuffles execs

Latest leadership changes see former Junkee founder and CEO in new group marketing, content and creative role

oOh!media has confirmed former Junkee founder and CEO, Neil Ackland, as its new chief content, marketing and creative officer as part of a new-look executive structure announced today.

The ASX-listed out-of-home provider said the expansion of Ackland’s role will see the creative and marketing teams from both Junkee and oOh! merged into one unit. Ackland joined the company’s executive leadership team two years ago after the OOH company purchased the media business.

The announcement comes two weeks after oOh! confirmed the departure of chief customer officer, David Scribner, as part of an executive review, and a little over a month since Cook was confirmed as staying at the helm until at least the end of the year.

Ooh! CEO, Brendon Cook, said functions of the business had been realigned to increase simplicity, ensure it was able to deliver at scale to maximise the company’s unique media proposition, and expand a customer-centric focus across the whole organisation. The catalyst for such a move was COVID-19, which had “profoundly” impacted the business, he said.

“COVID-19 has… challenged us to work together in new ways and adapt our business at pace to meet the new reality,” Cook said. “It has also highlighted how we could streamline our service delivery through realigning functions and ultimately enhance our offering to market.”

Other changes to leadership include the appointment of Tim Murphy to executive leadership as chief sales officer, as well as the merger of data and insights, customer strategy and network teams with the product strategy team, under the leadership of chief commercial and product officer, Robbie Dery.

Ooh! said it had also switched the delivery excellence team to report to chief commercial and operations officer, Noel Cook, a step aimed at achieving closer alignment between field, technology improvement teams and commercial partners. The group’s general manager for New Zealand, Nick Vile, has also been promoted to executive leadership status.
