Uber and Dettol strike partnership

Rideshare platform teams up with hygiene brand to highlight sanitation message

Uber Australia has partnered with Dettol to provide hygiene kits made up of its products to help ensure drivers who use the Uber app can equip their vehicles with hand sanitisers and disinfectants at no cost.

Uber said the kits are part of its $50 million global commitment to provide cleaning and hygiene equipment and is the only rideshare platform in Australia to help make them available for every trip.

Uber Australia general manager, Dom Taylor, said as cities begin to reopen, its focus is helping make driver partners feel supported.

"We want riders to have confidence that steps have been taken to help make their trip hygienically clean," he said. “This initiative comes at no extra cost for riders or driver partners."

Uber has also introduced a new sanitisation video that provides information and tips on the best way to sanitise vehicles and delivery bags, including various touchpoints throughout the vehicle. This advice is based on recommendations from global health authorities and all driver partners must view this video to access the Uber app. In addition, Uber recently introduced a new safety checklist for driver/delivery partners before they go online.

The rideshare platform is also working on a new interface on the Uber app that will let riders know when their driver partner has Dettol products available on a trip and is encouraging driver partners to disinfect touchpoints on their vehicles before logging on to the Uber app to drive, and high frequency touchpoints between trips.

RB Health Australia, marketing director, Henry Turgoose, said Australians are starting on the move again and assessing their transport options, including hygiene practices.

“We’re thrilled to help provide germ protection to both driver partners and riders who use the Uber app both now and beyond the restrictions,” he said.
