Facebook is on the hunt for a new Australia and New Zealand managing director following William Easton’s promotion to a new regional role.

Easton will relocate to Singapore to head up emerging markets for the social media giant across Asia-Pacific from mid-August. The company said he will continue to also manage the A/NZ business until his successor is found.

The newly created role sees Easton reporting to VP of Asia-Pacific, Dan Neary, and covering a number of the larger emerging marketing including India, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand. His remit is to build and scale take-up of Facebook’s applications and services, working closely with local teams, key brands and clients.

“The emerging markets across Asia-Pacific are arguably one of Facebook’s biggest opportunities in relation to delivering against our company mission of connecting the world,” Neary said in a statement.

“Will has done a fantastic job building our Australian and New Zealand business and will bring a huge amount of experience and value in his new role as head of emerging markets.”

Easton joined Facebook in January 2013 after six years with Google in both A/NZ and regional roles. Prior to that, he spent six years working at Microsoft in sales and marketing, firstly in the UK, then Australia.

“We have an incredibly talented local team who are well positioned to take the business in Australia and New Zealand to its next stage of growth,” Easton said. “Moving forward, the opportunity to lead Facebook’s growth in one of the most dynamic and exciting regions in the world is a ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’ which I’m really excited about taking on.”
