AMI partners up with UK Chartered Institute of Marketing on professional development

Both university and individual members tipped to benefit from the new global partnership

The Australian Marketing Institute (AMI) has partnered with the UK’s Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) in a bid to increase professional development opportunities for members at a global level.

Under the terms of the partnership, AMI accredited universities will be recognised under the partnership and students will get access to CIM resources. The joint membership will also give AMI members who are also CIM members a 15 per cent reduction in CIM training course fees across more than 90 virtual training courses. These range from digital marketing and brand strategy to product management and customer experience.

AMI’s chair, Andrew Thornton, said member feedback at both an individual and corporate level showed a desire to access world-class continuing professional development.

“The partnership with CIM enables the AMI to do just that with the benefit of an international context,” he said. “This is a significant development that will strengthen the professional development opportunities for marketers in Australia as well as the UK. Members of the AMI and CIM will be able to take advantage of joint membership at a preferential rate, allowing for best practice, training and resources to be shared.”

The partnership is designed to provide a synergistic response to the challenges marketers face, promoting the sharing of ideas and driving innovation, Thornton added.

For both AMI and CMI members who complete CIM course, there’s a globally recognised certificate from CIM upon completion, which counts towards the annual Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points required to retain AMI status.

Both memberships will also be able to leverage existing qualifications and experience to work to become a Chartered member of CIM or join AMI’s Certified Practicing Marketer programme (CPM).

“It was clear very early on in our discussions that the AMI shared our passion for upskilling through training and qualifications,” CIM CEO Chris Daly, commented. “The new partnership will enable us to provide access to the very latest training, research, thought leadership, webinars and best practice – making Australian and British marketers the envy of the world.”

The partnership comes as AMI also works to build professional development opportunities directly with corporates. Over the last year, the institute has worked with ANZ to accredit the banking giant's Marketing Masters skills development program.

At the time, AMI CEO, Narendra Prasad, told CMO he believed the industry hasn’t done enough to elevate marketing skillsets. He agreed the association is one of the parties that needs to lift its game around robust marketing skills development and programming.
