Outgoing Ovo CMO looks for next growth challenge

Nicole McInnes to leave the hybrid telco/content provider this week after the c-suite marketing role was cut from the business

Ovo CMO, Nicole McInnes, has confirmed she is exiting the startup telco player this week following a restructure which sees the company’s c-level marketing position removed.  

In a statement to CMO, McInnes said she was disappointed in the decision but also agreed the restructure was required given its current position and plans. As well as its first marketing chief, McInnes is a shareholder in the business.

“Startups are tough and fun, they are exhilarating in their growth but highly changeable as well. So as the needs of the business changed this restructure did make sense,” she commented. “Of course it is a shame and I will miss the culture, the creativity and the hands-on contribution you get in a startup but I’m looking forward to my next challenge, where I will put my hand to supercharging growth again.”

In a statement, Ovo CEO, Matt Jones, thanked McInnes for her contribution over the past year.

“Nicole was a great contributor to OVO over the last year. As is needed in a startup, Nic put her hand to anything and everything required with little fuss,” he said. “I wish her all the best for her next role, whoever nabs her will be very lucky.”

McInnes joined Ovo last May, a company positioning itself as a hybrid mobile telco and digital media content provider. The group has evolved to three key offerings: Broadcasting, telco services and licenced software.

Prior to Ovo, McInnes was with the Woolies X incubator division as marketing director. Her resume also includes local marketing director for online dating site, eHarmony, as well as marketing executive positions with Pandora and Adshel.
