Domain hires new chief consumer officer

New role oversees marketing, audience, content and the strategic partnership with Nine

Domain has confirmed a new chief consumer officer to lead its marketing, audience and content teams.

Jason Chuck was most recently the A/NZ founder and Asia managing director of home design content site, Houzz, then CEO of real estate technology player, Avnu. But he built strong credentials in marketing prior to this as CMO of Google in Australia, before stepping up to international operations and chief officer roles with eHarmony and Etsy.

In an internal email, Domain CEO, Jason Pellegrino, said Chuck brought extensive knowledge in marketing, content and building and scaling new businesses. He also highlighted Chuck’s real estate technology experience, noting his first professional role was as a product manager in the real estate industry.

Chuck fills the gap left by former chief marketing and content officer, Melina Cruickshank, who left Domain after four years in the role in order to join rival, REA Group.

“Jason is a passionate advocate for technology’s role in transforming how consumers and businesses interact,” Pellegrino said in his statement. “He has a track record in building technology and digital businesses, leading with real energy and passion.”

Chuck officially takes the reins on 15 April. He that that while it was a difficult decision to move on from LJ Hooker Avnu, the opportunity to build out a consumer-facing business was too tempting to refuse.

“Jason Pellegrino and the team at Domain have an incredible ambition and vision to build something truly special.  It was irresistible to me to lead the charge across the entire consumer side of Domain's business and to support Australians in all of life’s property decisions,” he said.

“It was an extremely difficult decision to move on from LJ Hooker Avnu. I thoroughly enjoyed creating a new technology and service experience for the real estate industry. I am proud of what we have built - a product that is truly differentiated, with a world-class team and real momentum.

“I decided to take up this new role at Domain, as I was attracted by the opportunity to jump back to my roots and build large scale, consumer-facing businesses.  With an audience of more than 7.2 million Australians reached by Domain, coupled with the new opportunities that Nine Entertainment brings, the potential is enormous.”
