RACV appoints its first chief marketing officer

Victorian automotive association recruits former Telstra marketer as its first executive-level marketing chief

Telstra’s former GM of consumer has swapped telco land for automobiles and become the first chief marketing officer at the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV).

An RACV spokesperson confirmed the appointment, telling CMO that it is a newly created role in the marketing area.

Thomas is originally from the UK, and built up years of telco experience working in a number of marketing and digital roles with the O2 brand, including head of consumer mobile acquisition, head of new customer marketing, and head of online commerce and optimisation. Prior to this, he was a marketing leader at GE Money.

Thomas relocated to Australia in April 2015 to join Telstra as its general manager of consumer business, with responsibility for all brand positioning activity and consumer advertising.

In a post on LinkedIn announcing his new role, Thomas said he was proud and delighted to be joining RACV in Melbourne as its executive-level CMO.

“It's a real privilege to join what is a great team, and such a respected and trusted business with so much opportunity. I can't wait to get started,” he said.

RACV provides roadside assistance, and home and car insurance in Victoria and has more than 2.1 million members.
