The recruitment market is showing a strong resurgence in marketing, sales and IT in Australia, with salary surges expected across all three sectors, a new report found.
The Salary Survey 2017, released by Robert Walters, showed a new resurgence in hiring across sales, marketing customer service, banking and IT sectors. According to the report, opportunities were greatest for those with very specialist skills, particularly in digital technologies and digital marketing.
In Victoria, digital marketing managers could expect a $40,000 salary hike this year from $140,000 in 2016 up to a maximum of $180,000. In Queensland, customer service team leader salaries could rise from $75,000 to $90,000.
The report further anticipated high levels of demand among large corporates for IT professionals experienced in cloud security and big data, reflecting the increasing use of mobile technology in all sectors. Salaries for IT workers or system engineers in Sydney for instance, could rise by 45 per cent from last year to $160,000.
Despite these positive trends, the survey warned continuing decline of the commodities sector and wider fears about the economy has dented confidence across almost all other sectors throughout the year. It found the market remained less active in Western Australia and Queensland, the areas hardest hit by the decline of the mining industry.
