Samsung has promoted its head of consumer electronics to VP and chief marketing officer, effective immediately.

Phil Newton takes up the reins following the departure of former CMO, Arno Lenior, who left the vendor in May after nearly three-and-a-half years in the role.

Newton has been in the consumer electronics space for more than 25 years, including seven years at Samsung Electronics Australia. He was previously vice-president of consumer electronics and was tasked with growing Samsung’s marketshare in categories including TV, audiovisual and IT.

Prior to Samsung, Newton held various roles including managing director at BenQ and executive director at Mitsubishi Electric Australia.

In a statement, Samsung said Newton will be responsible for leading the marketing communications and corporate marketing team across business divisions including audiovisual, home appliances, information technology and enterprise business technology.
