Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) is on the hunt for a new chief marketing officer after its CMO, Peter (Pod) McLoughlin, announced he will step down from the role for health and personal reasons.

In a statement, the beverages giant said McLoughlin has been a long standing and loyal executive within the broader SABMiller business, working across several markets including South Africa, Latin America and obviously Australia.

He leaves CUB effective 1 September, having served 18 months in the role. Before that, he spent just under a year as the strategy and capability director, and was also previously CUB’s sales and distribution integration manager.

Current general manager of Victoria Bitter and Crown Lager, Richard Oppy, will step into the day-to-day management of the marketing team during the recruitment process for a new CMO.

CUB's chief operations officer, Mike Walsh, said McLouglin’s energy, positive approach, broad business acumen and loyalty will be among many attributes that will be sorely missed by all at CUB.

"We of course support Pod's decision and wish he and his family well and hope he has a speedy recovery," he said in the statement.
