Youi hires new chief marketing officer

Former Optus consumer marketer joins the Australian insurance business to lead marketing

Youi has brought on Optus former senior director of consumer marketing, Angela Greenwood, as its new chief marketing officer.

Greenwood has spent the last five-and-a-half years with Optus, joining to oversee digital performance marketing and analytics before rising to senior director of consumer marketing in June 2019. During this time, Optus has been recognised as one Australia’s strongest brand in 2020 and second-highest brand in 2021.

Other marketing roles on Greenwood’s resume include senior marketing positions with Mortgage Choice and UK-based digital marketing agency, Found, where she worked with brands such as Red Letter Days, Disneyland, Superdry, Randstad and Reckitt Benckiser.

Greenwood takes up the reins at the insurance group left vacant by former CMO, Joachim Holte, who left in October last year and is now a director at Deloitte Digital.

Greenwood said Youi’s brand strength, focus on exceptional customer service, internal culture and its distinctive position in a rapidly evolving insurance sector were what appealed to her about the new job.

“I’m thrilled to be joining a successful challenger brand that’s dedicated to improving the Australian insurance industry by offering customers a compelling choice and adapting to the changing needs of the community and environment,” she said. “I’m looking forward to being a part of the next phase of Youi’s impressive growth story by acquiring and retaining even more loyal customers while continuing to deliver an outstanding customer experience.”

Youi CEO, Hugo Schreuder, said he was looking to see the brand go from strength to strength under Greenwood’s stewardship.

“Since day one, Youi has set out to do things differently, so we were looking for a CMO that is innovative, forward thinking and with a passion to achieve extraordinary outcomes – we’re confident Angela is the right person to lead our marketing strategy and team,” he stated.

“We’re really excited to bring Angela to team Youi and believe she is going to have an enormously positive impact on not just the marketing team, but the entire Youi experience for both our people and customers.”

Greenwood officially commences the job on 20 June and will be based in its Sunshine Coast headquarters.

Youi is also reportedly on a hiring spree, with 200 people expected to join the organisation this year and 60 roles currently vacant.

Marketing prowess versus the enigma of the metaverse

Flash back to the classic film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Television-obsessed Mike insists on becoming the first person to be ‘sent by Wonkavision’, dematerialising on one end, pixel by pixel, and materialising in another space. His cinematic dreams are realised thanks to rash decisions as he is shrunken down to fit the digital universe, followed by a trip to the taffy puller to return to normal size.

More than money talks in sports sponsorship

As a nation united by sport, brands are beginning to learn money alone won’t talk without aligned values and action. If recent events with major leagues and their players have shown us anything, it’s the next generation of athletes are standing by what they believe in – and they won’t let their values be superseded by money.
