SunRice has confirmed former Kellogg’s marketer, Tamara Howe, as its new chief marketing officer.
As previously reported in CMO, Howe is stepping into the marketing leadership post following the departure of head of marketing and insights, Andrew Jeffrey, in January. Jeffrey had joined the FMCG in 2018 after senior marketing, strategy and category development roles with Coca-Cola, Campbell Arnott’s and Nestle.
Howe, meanwhile, has spent the last two years as the general manager of Kellogg’s New Zealand. She spent more than 18 years with Kellogg’s in all, rising from brand management to marketing director of Special K, director of innovation and masterbrand then marketing director for A/NZ in October 2015.

During her time as the marketing chief, Howe was recognised in the CMO50 list of Australia’s most innovative and effective marketing leaders in 2018 and 2019.
Prior to Kellogg’s, Howe built her early brand management experience with Dairy Farmers.
Howe officially took up the CMO reins at SunRice in March and is responsible for strategic direction of the global rice business, spearheading growth across the core rice business, plus snacks, convenience, insights and innovation.
"I was attracted to Sunrice as it offered an opportunity to be a part of an Iconic Aussie organisation with an exciting global growth agenda alongside a strong community and sustainability focus," Howe told CMO. "The role has a strong focus on food culture, innovation, and developing capability – all areas I’m passionate about and I'm enjoying getting stuck in."
Creating meaningful brands should be a holistic and considered process. However, all too frequently it’s one that is disparate and reactive, where one objective is prioritized at the expense of all others. So, what are the key pieces to the ‘good’ brand puzzle?
Companies encounter a variety of challenges when it comes to marketing overseas. Marketing departments often don’t know much about the business and cultural context of the international audiences they are trying to reach. Sometimes they are also unsure about what kind of marketing they should be doing.
Using data is a hot topic right now. Leaders are realising data can no longer just be the responsibility of dedicated analysts or staff with ‘data’ in their title or role description.
