Consumer credit reporting firm, Equifax, has brought on its first new chief marketing officer as it undergoes a data and digital transformation.

Roni Millard has joined the organisation as CMO and will oversee B2B, B2C, corporate communications and digital marketing. The remit is to drive the marketing strategy, optimise customer experience, support revenue growth and build brand recognition. Millard reports to executive GM for sales, product and marketing in Australia, Moses Samaha.

Millard has spent the last couple of years as a marketing and sales consultant. Prior to this, she spent more than four years as general manager of marketing for software vendor, Infotrack, a role which saw Millard recognised in the CMO50 of Australia’s most innovative and effective marketing leaders in 2017.

“Equifax has been best known in its role as a credit bureau, however we’re much more than that. It is a misconception we are certainly shedding,” Millard told CMO. “As a global data, analytics and technology company, we help people live their financial best through data and insights that help inform decisions. Equifax has an instrumental role in the financial system and Australian economy, which has never been more important than in these unchartered times.”

To shore up its market position, Equifax has kicked off a digital transformation program of work and is investing in a multi-year, cloud native initiative that will focus on better integration across its various data sets. This will allow customers to consume and combine data like never before, Millard claimed.

“I was attracted to the role to join a great team and improve our customers’ experience as we progress through this digital transformation,” she continued.

“Equifax plays a key part of the fabric behind so many decisions, providing critical information and insights to both consumers, businesses and government. For consumers, we’re there for many of life’s big moments, whether it is purchasing a house, car or even a background check for a new job.

“For businesses, it is helping in key decisions including assessing credit risk and business relationships, identity verification and fraud prevention, employment screening, improving workflows and ultimately creating a better, more seamless experience for end consumers.

“I look forward to contributing to our revenue growth by informing and supporting our customers through our incredible breadth of offerings.”

Equifax has also recently promoted its group MD for Australia and New Zealand, Lisa Nelson, to president of Equifax International. Her replacement locally is Melanie Cochrane, who joins Equifax from American Express, where she most recently served as general manager of merchant services for Asia-Pacific.

Marketing prowess versus the enigma of the metaverse

Flash back to the classic film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Television-obsessed Mike insists on becoming the first person to be ‘sent by Wonkavision’, dematerialising on one end, pixel by pixel, and materialising in another space. His cinematic dreams are realised thanks to rash decisions as he is shrunken down to fit the digital universe, followed by a trip to the taffy puller to return to normal size.

More than money talks in sports sponsorship

As a nation united by sport, brands are beginning to learn money alone won’t talk without aligned values and action. If recent events with major leagues and their players have shown us anything, it’s the next generation of athletes are standing by what they believe in – and they won’t let their values be superseded by money.
