Visit Sunshine Coast has brought on a new head of marketing as the organisation hits the pedal on its new destination brand, ‘For real’.
Kelly Ryan has spent 12 years working in destination and cultural marketing and is best known for her roles as director of strategy and director of marketing at state tourism organisation, VisitCanberra. During this time, she led a team of 15 marketing staff overseeing strategies and campaigns for the ACT. Among these was ‘Human brochure’, which was awarded best National Destination Marketing Campaign at the Australian Tourism Awards In 2014.
Ryan has spent the past 18 months working as an external relations manager for the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra. She takes up the Visit Sunshine Coast (VSC) role in early July. The existing role has been vacant.
VSC CEO, Matt Stoeckel, said it was a critical time for the destination, noting the rollout of the new destination brand, 'For real'.
“Kelly is a well recognised leader in tourism marketing with a proven track record of delivering results for destinations and national attractions,” Stoeckel said. “Kelly's wealth of experience and passion for destination marketing make her a natural fit for the Sunshine Coast. During her time with VisitCanberra she led a high performing marketing team that contributed towards record visitor arrivals to the region, and I know she can do the same for us.
“Critically, Kelly’s experience in brand management will be fundamental to rolling out Sunshine Coast's new destination brand, For real.”
VSC also recently overhauled its marketing technology systems, rolling out Adobe Marketo Engage as part of efforts to improve the way it plans end-to-end omni-channel campaigns, engages with the right people with the right message at the right time, and measures return on investment (ROI) and business outcomes.
Many marketing leaders are scrambling to give their people more flexible work. And they need to: PWC’s Future of Work report showed 90 per cent of staff want some form of hybrid or remote workplace.
Your success as a senior marketing professional has much in common with your success as a leader. Both marketing, and leadership activities, depend on building trust, encouraging action, and reliably fulfilling promises that have been made.
Between further interest rate rises, inflation, empty shelves, extortionate lettuce prices, supply chain issues and the barely believable events in Eastern Europe, the past six months there’s been a cacophony of environmental factors.
