Taronga Zoo marketing chief to rejoin Unicef

Zoo director of marketing, commercial and fundraising takes up marketing, fundraising and communications leadership post at Unicef

Taronga Zoo is searching for a new marketing and fundraising chief following the departure of Libby Hodgson after an 11-year stint.

Hodgson, who joined Taronga Zoo original as manager of memberships and digital in 2009 before rising to director of marketing, commercial and fundraising in late 2014, is leaving the organisation to take up a similar role and remit at Unicef. Her last day is 17 July.

In an email to colleagues and partners, Hodgson said it was a difficult decision to leave Taronga Zoo, a role she said “was the most fantastic role that has ever come my way”.

“I have more good memories and proud moments at Taronga than I could possibly mention. From centenary celebrations to digital innovations, research programs, brand re-launches and product launches, I have worked on some remarkable projects that have helped shape Taronga’s history and it has been a privilege to share these moments,” Hodgson said.

Equally, however, Hodgson is enthusiastic about stepping into the director of fundraising, marketing and communications post at Unicef. This will also be the second time she’s worked for the not-for-profit, having originally worked as a direct marketing manager for Unicef over four years based in the UK. CMO understands the role previously existed but has been vacant for some time.

Taronga Zoo is yet to confirm Hodgson’s replacement.

Marketing prowess versus the enigma of the metaverse

Flash back to the classic film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Television-obsessed Mike insists on becoming the first person to be ‘sent by Wonkavision’, dematerialising on one end, pixel by pixel, and materialising in another space. His cinematic dreams are realised thanks to rash decisions as he is shrunken down to fit the digital universe, followed by a trip to the taffy puller to return to normal size.

More than money talks in sports sponsorship

As a nation united by sport, brands are beginning to learn money alone won’t talk without aligned values and action. If recent events with major leagues and their players have shown us anything, it’s the next generation of athletes are standing by what they believe in – and they won’t let their values be superseded by money.
