Commonwealth Bank brings on new GM brand

Former Optus brand director joins the banking group.

Commonwealth Bank has brought on Optus former brand manager, Dianne Everett, as its new general manager of brand.

Everett has spent the last three years with Optus, initially joining to consult on brand and communications before being appointed director of pre-paid marketing in 2017. She then switched to director of consumer go-to-market.

Prior to this, Everett spent nearly 15 years with Coca-Cola in two stints, working in roles such as brand director for sparkling beverages as well as overarching trademark marketing. She kicked off her career at Unilever in trainee and brand management.

In a comment on Linkedin announcing her appointment, Everett said she couldn’t help but take up the opportunity to work on another of Australia’s iconic brands.

“I am thrilled to be joining the passionate team at Commonwealth Bank and can’t wait to continue the journey towards a simpler, better bank,” she stated.

Everett is replacing CommBank GM of brand and insights, Sophie Finn, who was in the post for a year. She took up the helm after Stuart Tucker, former GM of brand, sponsorship and marketing operations, left to become chief customer officer at Hipages.

Marketing prowess versus the enigma of the metaverse

Flash back to the classic film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Television-obsessed Mike insists on becoming the first person to be ‘sent by Wonkavision’, dematerialising on one end, pixel by pixel, and materialising in another space. His cinematic dreams are realised thanks to rash decisions as he is shrunken down to fit the digital universe, followed by a trip to the taffy puller to return to normal size.

More than money talks in sports sponsorship

As a nation united by sport, brands are beginning to learn money alone won’t talk without aligned values and action. If recent events with major leagues and their players have shown us anything, it’s the next generation of athletes are standing by what they believe in – and they won’t let their values be superseded by money.
