Aussie brings on head of marketing, has ‘big plans’ for brand

Sascha Hunt was previously at Allianz

Aussie has brought on a new head of marketing, Sascha Hunt, who joins fresh from her role as group general manager of marketing at Allianz.

Hunt takes over the role from Deborah Kytic, who was head of marketing and digital for more than three years, after she left the financial provider in April this year.

David Smith, chief customer officer at Aussie, confirmed the appointment of Hunt to CMO as head of brand and marketing.

He told CMO Hunt will have responsibility for Aussie’s brand, acquisition, communications, customer engagement, digital, and local area marketing efforts, leading a team of 25.

“I’m delighted Sascha has joined Aussie to head up our brand and marketing efforts. Sash was most recently at Allianz where she has been leading their marketing team for the past four years, with decades of experience also under her belt from Tabcorp, Google, BT Financial Group, Citibank, ING Direct and Qantas.

“We have big plans for our brand this year and I’m thrilled to have Sash on-board to drive forward this critical work,” Smith said.

Hunt said Aussie is a well-known Australian brand with a strong legacy.

“I’m excited to join the business at such a pivotal time, and am looking forward to working with the team to shape Aussie’s brand and marketing for an even stronger future,” she told CMO

Hunt spent more than four years at Allianz in a variety of roles, including group general manager of marketing, and general manager of consumer marketing. Prior to this she was also head of digital marketing, strategy and innovation at Tabcorp.

Aussie said last year the group had taken the opportunity to review its executive team structure following the departure of GM of customer experience and technology, Richard Burns, for Commsec. Following this, the customer experience team was reporting into Smith, its then GM of strategy and product, who also became the chief customer officer.

Marketing prowess versus the enigma of the metaverse

Flash back to the classic film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Television-obsessed Mike insists on becoming the first person to be ‘sent by Wonkavision’, dematerialising on one end, pixel by pixel, and materialising in another space. His cinematic dreams are realised thanks to rash decisions as he is shrunken down to fit the digital universe, followed by a trip to the taffy puller to return to normal size.

More than money talks in sports sponsorship

As a nation united by sport, brands are beginning to learn money alone won’t talk without aligned values and action. If recent events with major leagues and their players have shown us anything, it’s the next generation of athletes are standing by what they believe in – and they won’t let their values be superseded by money.
