Former Telstra and IBM marketer joins KPMG

KPMG is continuing the expansion of its marketing and customer advisory functions

Jarther Taylor, former GM of marketing at Telstra, has been appointed marketing director of KPMG nationally.

Taylor has been working in a consulting capacity at KPMG Australia since December 2018 and will now be a key member of the firm’s brand and engagement leadership team and lead the national marketing function.

Taylor was the former CEO at customer experience agency, Datarati, and has over 20 years’ experience spanning marketing, sales and CX consulting across Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific.

He has held senior marketing roles at Telstra and IBM, where he was group marketing executive – global business services for three years. He is also an adjunct professor at UNSW, as part of the faculty delivering the executive MBA programme.

Taylor said he’s excited to be part of the leadership team that will transform how KPMG goes to market through integrating brand, marketing and customer experience.

“KPMG is a dynamic, forward-thinking organisation that is working with clients to make an impact. Being part of that is thrilling.”

The appointment is the latest for KPMG, which is growing its marketing and customer advisory functions. While the role is new, Julie Cutler, former KPMG head of marketing for more than six years, left the firm last year for Arup.

Last year, former managing partner and chief strategy officer of Publicis Worldwide (India), Sudeep Gohil, was named KPMG Australia’s head of brand strategy. The company also brought on former Publicis Communications chair and CEO, Andrew Baxter, as senior adviser to its Customer, Brand and Marketing Advisory business (CBMA).

Baxter is one of a string of high-profile industry leaders to join KPMG’s CBMA business since its launch in July 2017. Other partners include former Virgin Australia’s customer chief, Mark Hassellex-JWT leader, Carmen Bekker, Acuity Research’s Amanda Hicks, and ex-Google new business division leader, Lisa Bora. CBMA directors include ex-Telstra business-to-business GM, Melanie Evans, ex-One Green Bean chief, Louise Pogmore, ex-Zenith chief, Karen Halligan, and ex-AMR Australia’s Nick Deverson.

Margaret Cowle, KPMG Australia’s national managing partner for brand and engagement, and national managing partner, KPMG strategy consulting, said she is delighted to welcome Taylor to head up its renewed and reinvigorated marketing function.

“A seasoned and innovative marketer, Jarther has led transformation and CX initiatives both as an internal champion and as a consultant. His experiences helping organisations to deliver differentiating experiences across multiple channels will be a great asset as the firm continues to grow and we grow our brand, culture, data and technology to support our clients create value.”

Marketing prowess versus the enigma of the metaverse

Flash back to the classic film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Television-obsessed Mike insists on becoming the first person to be ‘sent by Wonkavision’, dematerialising on one end, pixel by pixel, and materialising in another space. His cinematic dreams are realised thanks to rash decisions as he is shrunken down to fit the digital universe, followed by a trip to the taffy puller to return to normal size.

More than money talks in sports sponsorship

As a nation united by sport, brands are beginning to learn money alone won’t talk without aligned values and action. If recent events with major leagues and their players have shown us anything, it’s the next generation of athletes are standing by what they believe in – and they won’t let their values be superseded by money.
