Avis Budget Group has promoted its head of product and PR to the top marketing job across the Pacific region.

Vanessa Wolczak joined the care hire company in January to lead product and public relations, bringing with her 15 years’ experience in the retail, consumer goods and FMCG industries. Prior to joining Avis Budget Group, she was the head of marketing for Rockmans and Table Eight brands within the Noni B Group, rising up from a group marketing and visual merchandising role.

Her resumes also includes roles such as global head of product for Sheridan (part of Hanes), general manager of merchandise at Bras N Things, and several brand and category manager positions at Pacific Brands.

As head of marketing, product and PR for Pacific, Wolczak is tasked with driving brand identity, communications and growth across all products under both the Avis and Budget brands. Her new role represents an amalgamation of these functions into one role.

“Vanessa’s wealth of experience in driving successful marketing and communications strategies is hugely welcomed at Avis Budget Group,” said the company’s commercial director, Ian Jones, who was himself appointed in July. Wolczak will report directly to Jones.

“We look forward to her valued strategic direction fuelling our product growth across the wider Pacific region.”

Avis Budget Group, which is US headquartered, has more than 11,000 rental locations across 180 countries. It also owns the Zipcar car sharing brand.

Marketing prowess versus the enigma of the metaverse

Flash back to the classic film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Television-obsessed Mike insists on becoming the first person to be ‘sent by Wonkavision’, dematerialising on one end, pixel by pixel, and materialising in another space. His cinematic dreams are realised thanks to rash decisions as he is shrunken down to fit the digital universe, followed by a trip to the taffy puller to return to normal size.

More than money talks in sports sponsorship

As a nation united by sport, brands are beginning to learn money alone won’t talk without aligned values and action. If recent events with major leagues and their players have shown us anything, it’s the next generation of athletes are standing by what they believe in – and they won’t let their values be superseded by money.
