Sheffield resigns News Corp chief digital officer post

Long-serving executive leader to pursue her "entrepreneurial spirit"

News Corp’s chief digital officer, Nicole Sheffield, will leave the media company in April after announcing her resignation today.

Sheffield has been with the organisation for the past 10 years, holding such roles as managing director of News Digital Networks Australia and CEO of NewsLifeMedia before becoming chief digital officer 12 months ago. Prior to this, she was GM of lifestyle channels for Foxtel.

Among her achievements at News have been leading commercial and innovation partnerships for Taste.com.au and Vogue Australia, helping news.com.au to number one in the online news category, launching and chairing joint venture. Medium Rare Content Agency, and launching new digital networks such as Food Corp, the News Prestige Network and women’s network under WHIMN.

In a statement, Sheffield said she had loved her time with news in a period of significant change for the media landscape.

“But with the business soaring I’m ready to pass the baton to an exceptional team and pursue my entrepreneurial spirit,” she said.

Executive chairman, Michael Miller, highlighted Sheffield’s significant achievements over her time with news.

“With those achievements in place, I understand her desire to explore her own opportunities and I wish her well,” he said.

The company said Sheffield will remain on-board to assist with a transition to fresh digital leadership until April.

Marketing prowess versus the enigma of the metaverse

Flash back to the classic film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Television-obsessed Mike insists on becoming the first person to be ‘sent by Wonkavision’, dematerialising on one end, pixel by pixel, and materialising in another space. His cinematic dreams are realised thanks to rash decisions as he is shrunken down to fit the digital universe, followed by a trip to the taffy puller to return to normal size.

More than money talks in sports sponsorship

As a nation united by sport, brands are beginning to learn money alone won’t talk without aligned values and action. If recent events with major leagues and their players have shown us anything, it’s the next generation of athletes are standing by what they believe in – and they won’t let their values be superseded by money.
