Our look at the lineup of Samsung hardware – including the industry's first smartwatch.

  • Everything but the kitchen sink Samsung made waves with the announcement of several new gadgets at the Unpacked event in Berlin on Wednesday. Along with new models of its Galaxy Note phablet and Note 10.1 tablet, the company showed off the first mass-market smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear. Here's a quick look at the new lineup.

  • The Galaxy Gear The Gear packs internal hardware roughly equivalent to a low-end smartphone, but it's designed to be used in tandem with a linked Android phone. When paired, it can be used for a host of functions, including voice-activated calling and texting.

  • Quick pix The Gear also has a 1.9-megapixel camera built into its wristband, for spur-of-the-moment photography. It can also run apps – albeit from a fairly limited launch stable – like Evernote and eBay.

  • S Voice/in living color Samsung's S Voice feature is central to Gear usage, providing the hands-free operation that's likely to be one of the product's biggest selling points. It's also available in six different colors, as you might expect for a product that will be on prominent display.

  • The Galaxy Note III The latest version of Samsung's stylish and stylus-equipped phablet also launched Wednesday, bringing a bigger battery, a new camera, and a wider screen, among many other features.

  • New S Pen features The stylus itself now has new functionality, including several handy applets like Action Memo and Scrapbook, which can be launched via pen gesture commands. The core note-taking applet can also now by synced up with Evernote.

  • Accessorize! Along with the Galaxy Note III's many upgrades, Samsung is touting its new customizability – variously colored flip-cases are available, as well as customized back panels.

  • The Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 edition) As you might expect, this is more or less a direct refresh of the existing Note 10.1, adding more powerful internals, an ultra-sharp 2560x1600 display, and some of the new software features also present in the Note III, like multi-window app usage and expanded S Pen functionality.

  • Knox Samsung's compartmentalized security offering will henceforth be available on the company's new consumer devices – it had previously been an enterprise-only product. Knox's "container" system can now be used to more heavily protect sensitive personal data.

  • Availability The Galaxy Gear and Galaxy Note III will go on sale globally on September 25, while Samsung promised only that the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 edition) would become available sometime in the third quarter of 2013.
