Carat has poached Yahoo7’s brand chief as its new chief marketing officer, one of a trio of c-level appointments made in the last 12 months.

Yahoo7 head of brand, Andrea Rule, will join the media agency giant from June as CMO, tasked with heading up the existing marketing function. The role at Carat encompasses brand positioning, trade marketing and contributing to new business development.

Rule replaces previous CMO, Adriana Colaneri, who departed in March to head up another of the Dentsu Aegis Network businesses, The Story Lab. The marketing function has been in place at Carat now for about two years.

Rule has been with Yahoo7 for five years and was originally hired in the new position of strategy and business development. Prior to this, she was group business director at Mediacom group, and also worked as its head of digital. During this time, she worked on brands such as Pacific brands, fosters Australia and Sussan Group.

Carat CEO, Paul Brooks, said the group has been looking for the right candidate with a unique and versatile skillset for some time.

“Andrea’s commercial nous and proven expertise in strategic integration and content marketing will no doubt be an invaluable asset to Carat,” he said. “It goes without saying she’s extremely well respected and highly sought after in market. Her appointment signifies our continued focus on and commitment to recruiting high-performing talent.”

Rule said the new posting presented an opportunity to work with a great team and marketing leading brand. The role officially starts on 18 June and is based out of Sydney.

“I’ve been impressed with the innovative approach Carat has to marketing and I’m looking forward to continuing and evolving that effort,” she said.

Rule is one of three executive-level appointments for Carat in the past 12 months. Brooks was promoted to be the organisation’s CEO last September, and Brendon Cropper joined as chief data and experience officer in March.
