ADMA has appointed eBay Australia’s senior director of marketing and advertising sales, Steven Brennen, as its latest chairman as part of a new-look board.

Brennen takes over the reins from Westpac general manager of CRM and digital, Karen Ganschow, who will remain on the board for two years as past chair. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the marketing and advertising community and joined eBay in March last year.

Other changes to the board include the departure of Quantium director, Tony Davis, who has spent the past two years as past chair and is retiring after 10 years of service on ADMA’s board.

ADMA has also brought on Droga5 executive creative director, Steve Coll, to the board.

“It’s our aim to ensure the ADMA Board of Directors is fully representative of the growing marketing, media and advertising industry,” said ADMA CEO, Jodie Sangster following the appointment announcement.

“We want to make sure we have experts in fields like data, content, creativity, technology and customer experience at the table. The appointments of Steve Brennen as chair as Steve Coll as a director reflect this mandate, while maintaining the highest standards of governance and leadership.”

Sangster said it was important for boards to have creative leaders at the table. Part of Coll’s chief tasks is to help propel the association’s offering for the creative sector, including introducing a program for copywriting to help train more copywriters in the industry.

Other ADMA initiatives for creative include Creative Fuel, ADMA Creative School and the Young Creative of the Year competition.

“But we need to do more and Steve Coll, with his award-winning experience, will be invaluable in this regard,” Sangster said.

Brennen stepped onto ADMA's board last year. Other new recruits in 2013 included Omnicom Media Group CEO, Leigh Terry; News Corp Australia’s new group marketing director, Damian Eales; and national leader of digital change and digital intelligence at PwC Australia, Jason Juma-Ross.
